A Private Belize Airstrip…and a Bargain Lot

Friday, February 25, 2011

Dear Reader,

I just got off the phone with Ari Kahn. Ari is the developer at Orchid Bay, Belize. He had exciting news to report. He has expanded Orchid Bay’s master plan to include an airstrip. You’ll be able to fly from Belize City or Ambergris right to Orchid Bay.  And this isn’t just for millionaires or the jet set. In Belize, even little guys like us can charter our own plane to bring us straight to our private Caribbean bolt hole.
According to Ari’s plans here’s how it will work…

Once there are two paying passengers on a flight between Corozal (the closest town to Orchid Bay) and San Pedro (on the island of Ambergris Caye) who want to land at Orchid Bay… you got it. The pilot will land and let you out. This is what they call a flag stop and it’s an integral part of Tropic Air’s business model. I’ve seen how these flag stops work first-hand on trips to Belize. You just tell them at check-in that you want to get out at one of these stops… and they let you out. The Tropic Air ticket price for the Ambergris to Corozal route is $42. If you are traveling on your own, the plane will stop if you pay for two tickets.

Even nicer is traveling to your own schedule. Like the jet set do…

If you are traveling direct from Belize City, you can charter a four-seat private plane for $350. If you are a party of eight…an eight-seat plane will set you back $600.

Ari expects to have permits in place by the end of this year and to deliver the airstrip by the end of next year. He plans to offer large lots close by the strip with waterfront, space for a hanger and access to the airstrip. Perfect if you want to use your own plane to hop around the Caribbean from your Orchid Bay base.

Today, $44,000 buys you a lot in Orchid Bay, in the Ceiba Horsefield Phase. I like these little lots. They give you the best of both worlds. A small area to maintain… with an unbeatable price tag. And you are surrounded by open space that will feel like your front and back yard.

You are a gentle stroll (or quick golf cart ride) to the community waterfront and beach area. You won’t stroll from your lot to the beachfront restaurant in a straight line. You’ll weave your way through your community…taking time to smell the orchids, or watch the colorful hummingbirds on the way.

If you want to build a little home on this site, good quality build costs are $100 per square foot…or up to $125 for high quality finishes. There is no minimum home size. The team at Orchid Bay will build you a 998 square foot home for $114,000.

That’s $158,000 for your home and lot if you decide to build. That’s incredibly affordable for a Caribbean home…

Ari and his team are standing by to send you a full information pack.

P.S. You should visit for yourself. Ari’s team can help with that, too. For just $399, you can experience Orchid Bay, and this hidden corner of Belize, for yourself. Contact Ari here to find out more.

Pathfinder is in the business of recommending a wide range of real estate and relocation services from developers and lawyers to real estate agents and tax specialists, to name but a few. Pathfinder requires developers to meet basic criteria before bringing them to you. However, any vetting we do on projects or professionals should not be construed as a guarantee by Pathfinder. Remember, the value of your real estate purchase can go down as well as up; there are no guarantees that property values will rise.

Pathfinder is not responsible for the management or delivery of chill weekends. We bring these to you for informational purposes on behalf of our developer and broker partners. As with any other overseas trip, we advise that you purchase travel insurance. We always recommend strongly that buyers perform their own complete due diligence, use a qualified legal professional to help with real estate transactions and purchase title insurance. Should a reader decide to purchase a property from one of the developers/real estate agents Pathfinder covers, Pathfinder will receive a fee from the developer or real estate agent.
