The fun way to get round here is in a beach buggy
Dear Reader,
Just fifty miles south of the bustling metropolis of Fortaleza, on Brazil's northeast coast, you'll find Praia das Fontes beach. The setting is beautiful: a carpet of dazzling-white sand, backed by craggy cliffs in shades of red, pink and terracotta, contrasting sharply with the brilliant-blue sky overhead. The cliffs harbor freshwater springs that tumble over the rock face...the perfect cool shower after a dip in the warm tropical ocean.
This place is much-visited by Brazilian tourists, who come here for Christmas, New Year, Carnival and Easter. But it's not well-known to foreign tourists yet. And despite the presence of large hotels and resorts, property prices are still affordable. You can buy a condo here for $64,800...
The easiest way to get around here--and the most fun--is in a beach buggy. You can drive along the sand for miles, stopping off in the towns and villages along the way. Some of the villages make tiny bottled scenes sculpted from colored sand, while others specialize in intricate lacework.
The fishermen here still use small, flat-bottomed wooden boats called jangadas. You can enjoy fresh-grilled fish, washed down by a cool beer, from the little beachside bars and restaurants.
Adventurous types come here for the water park close by, or head to Lake Uruau, a popular spot for water skiing, diving, and kite surfing.
A real estate project on Praia das Fontes is nearing completion. The developer will apply for the occupancy permit in the next couple of months. As soon as he gets the permit, owners can move in. Once he has the permit, Brazilian buyers can also get a mortgage on units in the development with a local bank. That means another potential source of buyers...
The project sits alongside the sweeping white-sand beach, and has direct beach access. This complex is low-rise, with two stories, laid out in a horseshoe. The swimming pool and social area sit in the center of the complex.
Five units remain out of the original 30. They all have balconies and ocean views. One-bed, 51 square meter condos (550 square feet) start at $72,000; two-bed, 76 square meter (818 square feet) units start at $108,000. As an added sweetener, the developer will give one cash buyer a 10% discount...cutting the one-bed start price to $64,800, and the two-bed to $97,200...for a Brazilian beachfront condo.
