Here Comes the Summer

Saturday, May 01, 2010

Dear Reader,

As we head into summer season in the US and Europe, our thoughts turn to vacations and beaches and hotels...

Easter in Mexico this year brought in $715 million in tourism revenue, an increase of 11% on 2009. The top ten tourist destinations racked up 90% occupancy rates, with Mazatlan and the Riviera Maya hitting 100%, for Holy Thursday and Good Friday. The government revealed a two-prong strategy for tourism. The first prong is spending $50 billion on infrastructure investment (new airports, and roads). The second prong is tourism development (new hotels and golf courses). The government wants to prioritize higher-spending cultural tourists, too, promoting Mexico's 29 UNESCO heritage sites...and starting a gastronomic route to show visitors how to prepare traditional Mexican dishes.

Those cultural tourists featured again when Mexico's President Calderon participated in a symposium on luxury travel. President Calderon emphasized Mexico's commitment to growing tourism. He also gave a few personal recommendations on sights that visitors to his country shouldn't miss, including the "unmatched beaches of Cancun and the Riviera Maya".

We won't argue with him on that score. One of the top beach destinations we've found is Tulum, in Mexico's Riviera Maya. You can tick off your dream beach checklist: white-powder sand, azure water, eco-luxury feel, an unspoilt paradise. You may find it impossible to tear yourself away. And a short drive from this picture-perfect beach, we've got a deal you'll find hard to resist. Take out your dream investment property checklist, and tick off the following: signature golf course, gorgeous beach, choice of restaurants and entertainment on your doorstep, and totally hands-off and turnkey. Oh, and add in fixed rental income. Too good to be true? Check it out for yourself on a mini-vacation for only $150....

Finally, I had to flag up Ronan McMahon's financing deal of the week (and maybe the decade). If you thought you couldn't afford a property in Costa Rica, think again. This deal offers a 1.5-acre lot in an upscale, private community, for an amazing $299 a month. Better yet, if you want to come and take a look at the property for yourself, the developer will put you up, free, for a couple of nights. The offer is only valid through May, so you'll need to act quickly, if you don't want to miss out.

Pathfinder requires developers to meet basic criteria before bringing them to you. However, any vetting we do on projects or professionals should not be construed as a guarantee by Pathfinder. Pathfinder is not responsible for the management or delivery of chill weekends. We bring these to you for informational purposes on behalf of our developer and broker partners. As with any other overseas trip, we advise that you purchase travel insurance. We always recommend strongly that buyers perform their own complete due diligence, use a qualified legal professional to help with real estate transactions and purchase title insurance. Should a reader decide to purchase a property from one of the developers/real estate agents Pathfinder covers, Pathfinder will receive a fee from the developer or real estate agent.
