Want to walk out your gate and straight onto this beach ?
Dear Reader,
The Samana peninsula in The Dominican Republic offers the Caribbean lifestyle that so many people dream of, but that’s so hard to find in reality. Samana boasts beautiful, deserted beaches, studded with coconut palms… shimmering azure seas… and a relaxed small town atmosphere that’s a world away from the all-inclusive package vacation experience.
You can find affordable property in Samana. But today, I’m looking at another option: Luxury living, in a large house, with 30 meters of direct beach frontage. Where only your own garden gate separates you from the beach…
One of the nicest places to spend time in Samana is Las Terrenas. Thirty years ago, this was a rustic fishing village. Twenty-two years ago, it didn’t have electricity. But it did have a distinctive Caribbean charm that drew increasing numbers of European expats.
Today, this little beach town has a unique appeal that combines a Caribbean feel and flavor with European style and elegance. Open the old wooden doors of the tiny sunshine-yellow and sky-blue restaurants and you’ll get a taste of Morocco…or Greece…or Italy. You can buy champagne, French pâté, and Italian sausage in the local supermarket and deli…browse art and antiques galleries on the little main street…or soak and scrub your way to bodily purity in the Turkish hammam.
The town runs alongside a crescent of golden sand beach, wrapped around a calm bay. You can relax on the beaches here, without the constant intrusion of beach vendors you’ll come across elsewhere in the Caribbean.
And you don’t have to stick to the village beach. Just a few miles west of Terrenas, coconut palms line Playa Bonita’s pretty half-mile curve of soft sand. Keep heading west from Playa Bonita and you’ll reach Playa Coson…a sweeping stretch of deserted beach, palms, and aquamarine ocean. You won’t have to guard your spot here…you can have a whole chunk of the sand to yourself.
You’re in good company here. This area attracts wealthy, discreet owners….who want peace and privacy. Set in the hills behind Playa Coson, Peninsula House is the Dominican Republic’s finest hotel…a beautiful plantation-style house, filled with four-poster beds, art and antiques, and mahogany soaking tubs. The hotel’s beach restaurant is on Playa Coson itself, and serves delicious seafood and desserts.
This house is also on Playa Coson. You get a 400 square meter (4300 square feet) main house, and a separate 30 square meter (320 square feet) two-bed, one-bath guest house. The grounds cover three-quarters of an acre. The spacious outdoor terrace runs the length of the house, overlooking the landscaped gardens. The property comes fully equipped and furnished, so it’s move-in ready.

The property includes a main house, a separate guest house, 3/4 acre of grounds, and 30 meters of beach frontage
But the best feature of this property is the thirty meters of direct beach frontage. You walk a few steps from your terrace into the garden…open your garden gate…and you’re on the beach.
Caribbean beachfront doesn’t come cheap. The asking price for this home is $1.5 million. That said, if you tried buying a similar Caribbean home to this one in the Bahamas, the Turks & Caicos, or the Virgin Islands, you could easily pay twice that amount.
The spacious terrace overlooks the landscaped gardens

P.S. If this property isn’t quite what you are looking for…or it’s over your budget (as I said, you can find affordable properties in Las Terrenas), but you like the sound of Las Terrenas…fill in your name and address here, and in the Queries box, tell Toni what you want and your budget, and she’ll send you some sample listings.
