Want to live fifty feet from this beach? Think you can’t afford it? Read on…
Dear Reader,
Mike Sager’s a California boy, who grew up in Huntington Beach. Today, he lives on a beach he calls Malibu; except it’s not the one in California. There aren’t any crowds in Mike’s little Malibu, or traffic jams. And homes here don’t come with a multi-million dollar price tag.
Mike left California in 2006. He now lives in a small town called Olón, on Ecuador’s south Pacific coast. He thinks of his new hometown as Malibu because, like its namesake, it has miles of wide, sandy beach… with large upscale homes and estates on the sand. To give you an idea of pricing, you’ll pay $189,000 for a 1900 square foot home in Mike’s Malibu (more on that in a moment).
Mike’s kept up his California beach lifestyle. He swims or surfs most days. For lunch, he heads to one of the rustic beachside restaurants, and pays $3.50 for a cold beer and a huge plate of grilled mahi-mahi. In the evening, it’s hammock time…and watching the sun set in all its fiery glory. If he wants nightlife, he heads to Montañita, a mile down the road. Montañita’s a hip little beach town, popular with a younger crowd of surfers and backpackers who know how to throw a mean party.
For big-city conveniences, the coastal city of Salinas lies an hour south of Olón. Mike originally lived in Salinas…until he discovered the quiet charms of Olón. He’s perfectly happy with his little Malibu.
Mike recently sent me details of a property in Olón that’s currently on the market. You can see the outside of the home in the photo below.

This home could make a perfect beach getaway
It’s just fifty feet from the beach in an exclusive private development. It covers 1900 square feet, with three beds and three baths. And it comes fully furnished. It has an outside beach shower, and landscaped yard. Inside, it has a vaulted hardwood interior, and an American-style kitchen. And, of course, the spacious terrace gives you expansive ocean views. It’s the ideal spot for watching those spectacular Pacific sunsets.
The asking price for this home is $189,000. Imagine what you’d pay for a similar beach home in the real Malibu…

Enjoy the fiery Pacific sunsets from your balcony…
And then imagine what you’d pay in property tax in California. For this $189,000 house in Olón, the property tax is around $60...annually. Just another upside of living in Mike’s little Malibu…
If you’d like more details of this house (or other properties in Olón), contact Mike here. He runs real estate tours that cover Ecuador’s south Pacific coast, and he’s happy to arrange a customized property tour for you.
Once you see this place for yourself, you’ll understand why Mike chose his little Malibu over the real thing.
