Dear Reader,

Here at Pathfinder we always advise you to try before you buy…and to buy what you see. By that we mean: visiting and experiencing your second-home destination… wiggling your feet in the warm blue ocean before you buy your dream beach home overseas.

Three years ago, we came up with something special…just the thing if you are looking to whittle down your list of potential overseas destinations where you plan to buy a property, live or spend some time… while having fun, and sharing new experiences.

Pathfinder’s chill weekends were born…and starting this week they take on a life of their own.

As you know, Pathfinder scouts the globe to bring you the world’s most unique and value-oriented real estate opportunities.  We find incredibly affordable properties in places like the white sand beaches of Tulum…along the awesome beaches, roaring surf and dramatic coastline of Nicaragua’s South Pacific Coast…or in the nicest part of Costa Rica, where lush green jungle drops steeply to sandy beaches—and conceals prices that are as little as one-sixth of what you could pay in other parts of Costa Rica.

In these and other destinations, chill weekends give you the opportunity to check out the best real estate opportunities…and to experience what it would be like to live or spend time here. You’ll meet the locals, see the sights, dine in local restaurants and chat with potential neighbors and fellow expats. You’ll see prime properties first-hand…you can ask all the questions you need to ask about buying a property, making the move…and you’ll take your new life in this place for a test drive…

Best of all, with chill weekends the developer or real estate agent running the trip picks up some of your tab. You may even get discounts on the property sticker price…the price you would pay if you walked in off the street.

These weekends are great fun. I go on as many as I can. I always leave with great memories and new friends. It’s worthwhile spending time with fellow real estate scouts and readers.

Thousands have already taken their new lives overseas for a test drive on a chill weekend. At the end of every trip, someone in the group circulates a list, to exchange e-mail addresses for photo sharing and follow-up contact. Each group has had an experience readers of these dispatches would find fun, useful and highly valuable.

Now…a way we can all benefit from this shared experience.

Last Friday, we launched our Pathfinder Facebook page. (You can click here to become a Pathfinder fan.) On this page, friends will share their stories and experiences from chill weekends and their real estate scouting trips.

This week, to kick start this sharing… and to celebrate three years of chill weekends… we’re running a competition. Become a fan of Pathfinder on Facebook and post a photo, story or video about an overseas trip you’ve taken (it can be a chill weekend trip, if you’ve been on one).  The best photo, story, video (or joke) will win a chill weekend for two in Tulum.

The prize includes accommodation for three nights, and meals, in a resort with five-star amenities. You’ll investigate a stunning Caribbean resort property with start prices from only $158,000….get to spend time on one of Mexico’s best beaches…and hang out with fellow readers over a cocktail by the pool. All you have to do is book your flight…

Become a Pathfinder fan. And, please share. The winner will be announced next Monday, March 7th.

P.S. Thirty of your fellow readers were in Tulum for a chill weekend last week. I look forward to seeing their postings…

Pathfinder is in the business of recommending a wide range of real estate and relocation services from developers and lawyers to real estate agents and tax specialists, to name but a few. Pathfinder requires developers to meet basic criteria before bringing them to you. However, any vetting we do on projects or professionals should not be construed as a guarantee by Pathfinder. Remember, the value of your real estate purchase can go down as well as up; there are no guarantees that property values will rise.

Pathfinder is not responsible for the management or delivery of chill weekends. We bring these to you for informational purposes on behalf of our developer and broker partners. As with any other overseas trip, we advise that you purchase travel insurance. We always recommend strongly that buyers perform their own complete due diligence, use a qualified legal professional to help with real estate transactions and purchase title insurance. Should a reader decide to purchase a property from one of the developers/real estate agents Pathfinder covers, Pathfinder will receive a fee from the developer or real estate agent.
