Tell Me, What Will I Do All Day?

Wondering what you can do in your overseas home...other than head for your hammock?

Dear Reader,

It's a question that I'm often asked: if I buy a second home in this location that you're writing about, what will I do all day?

Now, I'm not here to give you a million and one tips on what to do in your waking hours. My beat is overseas real estate. But today, let's take a look at a location with a wealth of activities...and a community in that location that offers even more.

The location is Mexico's Caribbean coast. It's a short flight from many U.S. cities (1.45 hours from Miami, two hours from Houston, and four from New York). And it's a mix of chic towns, fabulous beaches, and raw, unspoiled natural beauty.

On Mexico's Caribbean coast, you can:

  1. Swim and sunbathe. With a tropical climate, clear turquoise Caribbean Sea, and white coral beaches, you'll enjoy spending time on the beach. And there's a lot of beach to choose from...all of it equally gorgeous.
  2. Dive, snorkel, go sailing or fishing. The world's second-largest barrier reef lies just off the coast, filled with a rainbow of exotic fish and jewel-like corals. You can swim with giant whale sharks...catch a glimpse of manatees and sea turtles...or dive in an extensive underground system of caves, rivers and sinkholes. Small marinas dot the coast for boating and fishing enthusiasts.
  3. Explore ancient history. Mexico's Caribbean is home to the country's only Mayan ruins on the coast, at Tulum. And you can visit the world-famous Chichen Itza temples and pyramids. In fact, you'll find ruins from the ancient past sprinkled throughout the region. Travel a short distance from the coast, and you'll find traditional Mayan villages, looking much as they have done for centuries...and quaint colonial towns, with quiet plazas and stately buildings.
  4. Golf. Golfers can take their pick from some of the finest courses in Mexico. And the community I'm going to tell you about is set alongside a Robert Trent Jones II course.
  5. Enjoy restaurants, cafes, bars, entertainment, shopping. In the Mexican Caribbean, you're spoiled for choice. You have restaurants, cafes and entertainment on your doorstep with this property...but venture a little further afield, and you can really take your pick.

In Playa del Carmen, thirty minutes away, lively clubs and gourmet dining await, as well as music and arts festivals. In the opposite direction, Tulum beckons with organic cafes, chic restaurants, and spa treatments. For shopping, Playa has a great mix of boutique and chain store shopping...and a Walmart for groceries.

This coast is rich in Mayan history that dates back centuries

So, those are the possibilities in Mexico's Caribbean. And one community here gives you even more... a chance to fully engage your mind and body, and challenge yourself:

  1. Keep your body active in the onsite gym, or lap pools. Take part in daily exercise or movement therapy classes, or use personal trainers to help you shape up.
  2. Stimulate your mind, with lifelong learning that's also fun. You could try Spanish ...learn how to salsa like a local...or try your hand at cookery. On-site classes will include all this...and ecology, culture and arts classes, too.
  3. Achieve inner peace, with meditation, stress management and yoga sessions.

Jonathan Ellerby (formerly of Canyon Ranch), will lead the community's holistic and wellness program, designed to help you feel sharper, younger and healthier than you have in years. Jonathan is the CEO of the Tao Center, set in 717 lush acres in the Mexican Caribbean. The Tao Center is the focus of the Tao residential community.

You'll have the finest golf course in the area on your doorstep

Tao is an opportunity to enjoy luxurious, Caribbean resort living...with a private, secluded feel. More than 40% of the community will remain as green space, carefully landscaped around existing mature trees and shrubs. The Robert Trent Jones golf course and 80,000 square foot clubhouse is close to Tao...and a short shuttle ride away, you can access the main resort amenities...including a long stretch of white-sand beach.

Most of the homes in the resort come with the kind of pricing you'd expect for a single-family home with luxury finishings in a Caribbean resort...a million dollars plus. But you can get the same sleek modern style in your Tao home...for a fraction of the cost.

Tao interiors will look and feel elegant and luxurious

Condos start from $163,000 (and with developer financing, from just $995 a month). Townhomes and residences are also available.

And you can get a taste of your new Tao lifestyle on a Tao chill weekend...

Just get yourself to Cancun airport and the Tao team will take over. You'll stay in five-star luxury. You'll dine in the resort's gourmet restaurants. Your meals, your drinks...even cocktails at sunset... are included.

The token cost to readers of these alerts for Tao chill weekends is $180. The next trip is July 14th - 17th.

Give Cathy your name and e-mail address here and she'll send you a full information package on Tao, and the chill weekend trip. And discover a place where you won't want to leave...and where you'll never have to wonder what to do all day.

Pathfinder is in the business of recommending a wide range of real estate and relocation services from developers and lawyers to real estate agents and tax specialists, to name but a few. Pathfinder requires developers to meet basic criteria before bringing them to you. However, any vetting we do on projects or professionals should not be construed as a guarantee by Pathfinder. Remember, the value of your real estate purchase can go down as well as up; there are no guarantees that property values will rise.

Pathfinder is not responsible for the management or delivery of chill weekends. We bring these to you for informational purposes on behalf of our developer and broker partners. As with any other overseas trip, we advise that you purchase travel insurance. We always recommend strongly that buyers perform their own complete due diligence, use a qualified legal professional to help with real estate transactions and purchase title insurance. Should a reader decide to purchase a property from one of the developers/real estate agents Pathfinder covers, Pathfinder will receive a fee from the developer or real estate agent.
