Where do Brazilians go when they want a beach vacation?
Dear Reader,
Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is famous worldwide for its beaches. Two of Brazil's best-known beaches are in Rio: Ipanema and Copacabana. We've all seen the photos. Beautiful crescents of white sand, lapped by blue-green ocean, and backed by a sweep of high rises and craggy mountains. They're temptingly pretty. It's not surprising that most foreign tourists who vacation in Brazil come to Rio.
But what might surprise you is that when Brazilians want to vacation at the beach, they don't go to Rio. Instead, they head to the Fortaleza in the state of Ceara on Brazil's northeast coast. So what do those savvy Brazilians know that foreign tourists don't?
They know that Fortaleza is home to some of Brazil's best beaches. They're not the most famous. You probably won't see them on TV or a billboard near you anytime soon. But they're well worth a visit.
And, unlike Rio, you can buy a beach property in Fortaleza without draining your bank balance.
Fortaleza is the state capital of Ceara. It's Brazil's top domestic tourist destination. In the first four months of this year, 1.14 million tourists visited Fortaleza. The second-biggest source of domestic tourists? They came from Rio...
Fortaleza's a modern, bustling city, with nice restaurants, good shopping, and great nightlife. It feels young, and cool, and exciting.
It's fun spending time on the city beaches daytime, and then relaxing over dinner or dancing the night away. But east and west of the city, the beaches get better. They're simply stunning.
Travel just thirty minutes west of Fortaleza, and white sand beaches run for miles. You'll easily find a whole chunk of sand to call your own, and a shady palm to relax under. Scattered along the coast, you'll come across little fishing villages and beach towns. Cumbuco's one of them. It's a cute town, popular with kite-surfers, and beachgoers seeking tranquility.
In Cumbuco, you can buy lots in a beachfront community from 95,000 reals ($59,592). Plus, you can spread your payments. Pay 9500 reals ($5,958) down, and monthly payments of 3717 reals ($2331) a month for 23 months. And then the lot is yours.
East of Fortaleza, the beaches are gorgeous, too. But the style is very different. There's more development. This area is home to Beach Park, South America's biggest water park. More than a million Brazilians visit Beach Park each year. They love the water park, the barracas (rustic beach bars and restaurants), and the live music. It's all about on-tap amenities here.
Close to Beach Park, Aquiraz Riviera promises a more exclusive vacation experience. This resort boasts a 5-star hotel (with more planned), a golf course, and personalized service. That service extends to a new residential community in Aquiraz.
Here, condos are not cheap. But you can make monthly payments of 4522 reals ($2839)...enjoy luxurious living...and on-tap hotel service when you want it. Don't want to clean your room or go out for dinner? No problem. The hotel will take care of it. Best of all, you only pay for the hotel services if you use them.
You can see Fortaleza's beaches, and the best properties (in the city itself, and to the east and west) on a customized real estate tour.
