Southern Zone Costa Rica
Steve's traveled the world - but this place kept drawing him back

Dear Reader,

Steve Linder's wanderlust started as soon as he graduated high school in 1974. He bought a Chevy Bel-Air and drove from Massachusetts to Mexico. The trip gave him a taste for travel, adventure and exotic destinations.

But in the year 2000, he noticed something unusual. There was one country that he kept going back to, time and time again.

He went to Belize, then Costa Rica. He visited the Dominican Republic and Mexico's Yucatan...and back to Costa Rica. Trips to Panama, Malaysia and Thailand followed...before going back to Costa Rica. Hawaii, Nicaragua and Ecuador were his next stops...and (yes, you guessed it) then he returned to Costa Rica.

So when Steve began thinking about a second home overseas, Costa Rica topped his shortlist.

That's when his next door neighbor in Key West told him about a piece of land she owned in a remote part of Costa Rica called the Southern Zone. She told Steve she'd owned the land for 10 years. She'd planned on building a house...but was now in her 80s, and figured she'd left it too late. She wanted to sell.

Steve saw an opportunity. But despite all his travels to Costa Rica, he hadn't seen the Southern Zone. It was near impossible to get to. Bad roads and rickety bridges made an uncomfortable, bone-jarring ride. Driving from Costa Rica's capital, San Jose, took 7-10 hours. In rainy season the road was often impassable. But Steve decided to give it a go.

And the trip was worth it. The Southern Zone captured the best of Costa Rica. Huge national parks...filled with monkeys, sloths, wild cats and tropical birds. Sharp mountains covered in forest, cascading down to deserted sandy beaches. A little group of expats who loved this place and planned to set up little stores and restaurants here...

The land his neighbor wanted to sell was in a community called Pacific Lots. Steve liked it...a lot. He liked it so much, he not only bought the property: He also started working for the developer.

That was back in 2002. Steve's seen some changes in the Southern Zone since then. Pacific Lots has grown, with 200 homes completed...and now there's a deli and lots of cafes and restaurants close by. A new state-of-the-art hospital opened in the area in 2008. Yet the Southern Zone remains pristine and untamed. And property prices are still affordable. Lots in Pacific Lots start from $40,000.

The biggest change in the Southern Zone is the best one: a new road. In January 2010 a new coastal road opened. It's smooth, paved, and easy to drive on. It cuts the drive time from San Jose to 3.5 hours. That makes getting to the Southern Zone quick and convenient.

Today, Costa Rica is still Steve's favorite country. And the Southern Zone is his favorite spot in Costa Rica. He loves his job, too. He runs four-day chill weekend trips to the Southern Zone. You'll see this uniquely beautiful location...explore the beaches...meet some of the expats who have already made the move...and check out the real estate options on offer at Pacific Lots.

You won't sit through sales presentations or face high-pressure sales tactics. The Southern Zone - and Pacific Lots- sells itself.

The chill weekend trip costs $250 per person, including transport, meals and accommodation. Just get yourself to San Jose, and Steve will take over from there.

Steve will explain why he loves Costa Rica so much, and what keeps bringing him back to the Southern Zone. Once you see it for yourself you'll understand what makes it so special- and why so many people want to own a home here.

The next chill weekend with Steve runs January 26th-29th, 2012.

Pathfinder is in the business of recommending a wide range of real estate and relocation services from developers and lawyers to real estate agents and tax specialists, to name but a few. Pathfinder requires developers to meet basic criteria before bringing them to you. However, any vetting we do on projects or professionals should not be construed as a guarantee by Pathfinder. Remember, the value of your real estate purchase can go down as well as up; there are no guarantees that property values will rise.

Pathfinder is not responsible for the management or delivery of chill weekends. We bring these to you for informational purposes on behalf of our developer and broker partners. As with any other overseas trip, we advise that you purchase travel insurance. We always recommend strongly that buyers perform their own complete due diligence, use a qualified legal professional to help with real estate transactions and purchase title insurance. Should a reader decide to purchase a property from one of the developers/real estate agents Pathfinder covers, Pathfinder will receive a fee from the developer or real estate agent.
