Dear Pathfinder Reader,

While most of the new development in Costa Rica has been focused along its popular Pacific beaches, a hidden gem of a project has been quietly springing up a couple of hours inland in an area that's known as the “Lake Tahoe of Costa Rica.”

The project is Turtle Cove Lake & Yacht Club, a gated residential community on Lake Arenal …an area with temperatures of between 75 and 90 degrees year-round…and some of the most awe-inspiring scenery anywhere in Costa Rica.

Rolling pastures, lush mountain canopy forests with exotic flora and fauna, waterfalls, rivers, hot springs…and, at the far end of 26-mile-long Lake Arenal, the cloud-ringed perfect cone of Volcán Arenal, the dazzling active volcano that lights up the distant evening sky with incredible natural fireworks.

The stunning beauty of the setting is only part of the allure of Turtle Cove.

The breathtaking vistas will blow your mind. But owning a piece of property here definitely will not blow your budget.

Villas at Turtle Cove & Yacht Club start at only $195,000. That price will buy you a single-story, two-bedroom, two-bath home with 1,200 square feet of living space overlooking picturesque Lake Arenal.

Or, for $260,000, you can own the two-story, more spacious model (2,160 square feet), with three bedrooms and three baths, again with that amazing lake view.

Both models feature a great room/dining area with nine-foot ceilings, and are finished with ceramic tile floors, solid wood cabinets, marble and granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances.

To take advantage of this opportunity, you'll need to act quickly, though. Only 11 of these Lake Villas are being built--four of the 1,200-square-foot units, and seven of the larger models--and one of each sold nearly the moment the villas came on the market.

The remainder of the project is parceled into 37 lots, from just under a quarter acre to over 1½ acres, with prices starting at $70,500.

Much of the community activity at Turtle Cove will revolve around the project's marina. Not surprising, since Arenal is Costa Rica's largest freshwater lake and a mecca of sorts for water enthusiasts.

Anglers pull 15-pound rainbow bass (known locally as guapote ) and 13-pound wild tilapia from the 200-foot-deep water. Power-boaters, sailors, and kayakers marvel at the surrounding scenery as they explore the 33-square-miles of wate.

Future plans at Turtle Cove also call for a boutique hotel with pool, a restaurant, and a spa.

The nearby town of La Fortuna has medical facilities, several restaurants and shops, and a Farmer's Market where you can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. For “big-city” needs, Costa Rica's capital, San José, is a 3½-hour drive from Turtle Cove.

The developer has already completed a successful beach project in Guanacaste…but he will tell you that--when it comes to the natural beauty of the surroundings, and value for your investment--Turtle Cove is hard to beat.
